Florida has a multitude of species you can catch. By far, the most common is the Snook, Trout & Redfish. In addition, many travelers to Central Florida also enjoy catching the bigger fish. Also, you can catch tuna, snapper, tarpon and marlin. When it comes to catching these species, it all depends on which location and destination you will be traveling to.

Best time of year to go fishing in Central Florida?

When you come out on a fishing charter and adventure, enjoy catching redfish and snook. Those are the main targeted species here in Florida. In order to determine which destination would be best, you have to choose the species. Snook can be caught in every port in Florida you can find them. Big Redfish can only be caught in Central Florida. They migrated and live all around Florida from down south to the Panhandle of FL.

The best time of year to come fish for Snook is during their spawn. A spawn is an event of mating that occurs multiple times of year for Snook species. Each spawn will vary based off the time of the year and water conditions. Snook spawn at an optimal water temperature ranging from 70-78 degrees. These conditions begin to stabilize during the month of June into July. The best times to come catch Redfish here in Florida is based on the area, but July through September. If you can plan your trip around moon phases that will give you the best chance at catching fish grouped up.

Snook Migratory Habits

Snook spawn during the months of June through July, also depending on water temperatures. They love to reside in very warm waters which are also the best time to come catch one. Females typically are the larger fish. The males or the protectors typically don’t get as large. There are no physical differences between male and female snook, so anglers cannot tell the difference between the sexes

Best time of day to go Snook fishing?

Many ask us on a daily basis: “When is the best time to go fishing in Florida?” The best time to go Snook fishing is dependent on fishing conditions. If the fishing conditions are warm, the best time to come Central Florida fishing is in the early morning. There is nothing like early morning feed whether fishing for Snook or Redfish.

Florida, like the rest of the United States, experiences cold fronts during the winter months. If the cold fronts drop the water temperatures significantly, then the afternoon bite will be the strongest. If you are fishing during our warm months here in Florida, the early morning hours is when the temperature is the lowest and the bass bite the best. Get on the water before sunrise and get to your favorite fishing spot during safelight. Yet again, peacock bass love the warm water, so when the temperature of the water is highest, typically is the best time to get out there.

February South Florida Inshore Fishing

It continues to impress

Captain Al had the pleasure of fishing with Le’Raven Clark and his wife Kristen. Le’Raven is a football player for the Indianapolis Colts. They were traveling to Miami, FL from Texas looking for some vacation time. While doing so, Cape Canaveral Inshore Fishing appealed to their outdoor interest. The backwater and bay fishing suited all their needs and is one amazing place to experience.

Le’Raven and Kristen had a fantastic time on the water with Captain Al. One amazing thing about Cape is that you can catch a wide variety of species. They caught numbers of speckled sea trout on the grass flats casting Berkley Gulp shrimp. After catching them up, they moved over to the bridges and structure. It open a whole new door of species including numbers of Mangrove Snapper and Triggerfish.

Some days of fishing you will never forget. Captain Al stated that this morning fishing trip was one that he or they will never forget. It was a fantastic experience for all parties.

Captain Al is looking forward to the next opportunity to do this again!

February South Florida Inshore Fishing 3

It was not long after this fishing trip that Captain Al adventured further north to Cape Canaveral, FL. He had the pleasure of fishing with Alan and his friends, Tim and Dave. They were traveling from Michigan looking to explore what Central Florida had to offer.

Cape Prevail again!

The Cape Canaveral Canals came in strong for these friends. They had 4 big fish on that broke off before they could get them to the boat. One of the unfortunate parts about Florida Inshore Fishing is that sometimes you lose the fish you are after. Alan fought and caught a monster jack crevalle weighing close to 15 pounds. Jacks are a great fish to catch as they fight very hard and long.

Alan and his friends had a great experience here in Central Florida while inshore fishing. They will be back for more action. Captain Al is looking forward to their next adventure in the near future!

February South Florida Inshore Fishing 2

Shortly after this awesome fishing trip, Captain Al was back down in Cape Bay. This time, he had the pleasure of fishing with Ben and his mom, Randy. The action was not as strong as the last trip here in Cape Canaveral but they had a great time. Fishing is not always about catching but about soaking in the sun and bonding with your loved ones.

Ben caught all the fish on this fishing trip. He landed a good looking quality Sea Trout along with a bonnethead shark. The Cape offers many species and every time you cast your line out, you never know what will bite the end of your line.

Randy really enjoyed her time with her son in the Cape. They will be back for more action in the near future! Captain Al is looking forward to their next adventure!

Dolphin on Fly While Cape Canaveral Deep Sea Fishing

The ocean was an amazing azure blue and flat as liquid glass.  The boat was drifting as if suspended between two other worlds of brilliant blue sky and the world of gin clear water below.  It is hard to judge depth in ocean water that is so clean and pure – fish just appear from nowhere gliding up to see what you are and if there are morsels good to eat.  It was on one of these days when the boat was drifting motionless in the heat and stillness of a Florida summer day when I looked over the side and saw a small school of dolphin circling the boat.  I rushed into the cabin and unlimbered my 10 weight fly rod.  I was so excited I was shaking trying to on a fly.  This was my first and as good a chance as I was ever going to have to hook a dolphin on fly with Captain Wayne Fellows!

I went to the back of the boat ready to cast.   A dolphin swam past the transom about 20 yards off- standing in the corner of boat I back cast to my right side parallel and down the side of the boat and towards the bow then out into the blue- as soon as the fly hit the water I slowly stripped back in and on this first cast the dolphin saw the fly and made its move- I couldn’t believe my luck!  He gulped down the fly and took off- I held the rod pointed at the fish and jerked back on the line to set the hook- as soon as he felt the hook set he leapt three great jumps and pulled the line tight.  I held the line tight against the rod and I reeled in the slack and now I had the fish on rod and real.  He made a couple of good runs and I just watched, savoring the moment!   I began to reel him in and I called for the gaff- he made a couple of good turns at boat side and he was gaffed and brought on board.  I have great memories of the day, the picture you see above, and oh did I tell you, it was not a really BIG dolphin, it was just my first on fly!

Captain Wayne Fellows is a local fishing expert that will put you on fish and enrich you with years of knowledge of Cape Canaveral.

Captain Wayne had the pleasure of fishing with a wonderful family this month. Christian, his brother Jon, his son Jacob and his son Jacob Jr along with two young ladies came out to explore what offshore fishing had to offer. They were traveling from Brazil to spend some time at this beautiful destination. While here, they had to get out in the deep blue sea.

Cape Canaveral Fishing AdventureThey adventured out on a two day fishing charter out of Cape Canaveral. The weather conditions were great on both days. Sea conditions were not as great on the first day creating an opportunity to fish closer to shore. While fishing there, they caught several species of fish. The main catch was migrating and spawning Snook. Most of the catches of Snook weighed in at 15-20 pounds.

Sea conditions laid down and allowed them to go offshore the second day. Bottom fishing was what they wanted to do while offshore fishing. Captain Wayne took them 15 miles offshore to one of his productive bottom fishing spots. After several drops, they started hooking into big red snapper. Cut bait was the magic on this fishing trip.

This awesome group got to experience many different catches. They had a grouper on as well but you have to know how to fish for them. When grouper get hooked into, they want to run and dig into the rocks. Once this happens, you are most likely going to lose the fish.

Some additional species caught were sea bass. Sea bass can be caught on the bottom as well. Interesting enough, the reef they were fishing also was holding barracuda. This group really enjoyed landing a 5 foot barracuda.

Captain Wayne really enjoyed fishing with these clients. It is always nice to be able to share something you love with travelers and visitors. Captain Scott holds Cape Canaveral close to his heart and would love to show you what is so magical about this destination. He looks forward to seeing you on the water next time.

Inlet Snapper Fishing Charter in Cape Canaveral Beach Florida

Inlet Snapper Fishing Charter

August was an amazing month for offshore fishing in Cape Canaveral Beach. Taking a quick cruise to the Atlantic Gulf Stream or the local reefs and wrecks produced a steady bite for its visitors. August was also the month that Red Snapper Season opened up for several weekends. Inlet Snapper Fishing Charter was one of the best experiences here in South Florida along the east coast.

Right in Cape Canaveral, you will find the entrance to the great Atlantic Ocean. While cruising through the intercoastal waterways to get there, enjoy the sights and wonders of South Florida. As you travel out of Port Everglades Inlet make sure you capture the beautiful views of the beach and scenery.

Our local experts have years of experience cruising these waters and getting out to the local reefs for an abundance of species. Some of our experts have learned a variety of techniques including inshore fishing and offshore fishing. When the weather gets rough, you can always come in and catch some great species on lighter tackle. Cape Canaveral deep sea Fishing has been where it is at though when the weather permits.

Captain Wayne Fellows had the pleasure of fishing with Ariel and Tai. They were traveling from California and Japan to do business at a convention. It was a fun morning with the owners of Jackall Lures this summer. The fish were all fired up and ready to be caught. Ponce Inlet and Cape Canaveral Beach gives access to some of the best waters to catch Red Snapper and Mango Snapper. Sometimes when you go out you come across other species that can change the plans or direction of your fishing adventure on a Ponce Inlet snapper fishing trip.

Ariel and Tai wanted to catch mango and red snapper. They got the mango snapper all fired up on the local reef and started reeling them in. It was awesome to have a school of great fish below the boat. Sometimes when you fire up a school and you put out bait and get the water chummed up, you happen to acquire some unwanted guests. Tai was looking for a good fight and he sure got one.

As they were reeling in a mango snapper left and right, they wanted to go for something bigger. Chunking out bigger bait and letting it get to the bottom, it was not long until something picked it up. Tai was in for a long 20 minute fight that he actually had to have Aerial assist him with. The tax men were in town and they brought one to the boat. They caught a 7 foot, roughly 200 pound reef shark. It was an awesome fight. You just never know what you will catch on a Cape Canaveral Beach Fishing Charter. When you bottom fish like such, you will always encounter sharks whether you are catching them or they steal the struggling fish you just hooked.

After getting taxed as they call it, the bite slowed down. After some time, the red snapper moved in. Ariel and Tai had a lot of fun catching several of them before the bite shut off. It was not long after the bite shut down that we decided to move inshore in order to catch a Snook, but could not find the snook they were after!

Captain Wayne had an awesome time with Ariel and Tai. They are looking forward to getting back on the water next time they visit Florida. You truly can’t beat what this beautiful area of Florida can offer you. Don’t miss out on your adventure in search for the inshore or offshore species of your dreams. Cape Canaveral Beach can most certainly accomplish your goals and dreams right here in Florida. We can’t wait to see you on the water next time!

The Upper East Coast of Florida is the perfect vacation destination if you want to get the true Florida outdoor experience.
